Campanine Alta
Self-sown vegetation in forest trees
It is beautiful to cross the Regional Reserve following the country-lanes and footpaths.
For convenience two ways have been determined:
  • The first one from Campanine, to Foppe di Nadro and Nadro; along this way there are three ambits that represent the environment of the Regional Reserve.
  • The second leaves from Paspardo and follows the ancient road to Deria and Capo di Ponte.

    First way: Campanine - Nadro

The first stretch is placed in "Campanine Alta"

Walking down the way that starts from Campanine it is possible to observe the transformation of chestnut woods, as well as described in the introduction, toward a woodland much less influenced by the man and in which gradually the self-sown vegetation takes back to prevail over.

The chestnut is the predominant tree, perhaps ranged into Alpine valleys by the man in the Pre-Roman period, just like for its fruits.

In this sector of the Regional Reserve it is possible to observe the natural transformations that happen in an abandoned chestnut wood (probably during the 50’s and 60’s): gradually the self-sown-vegetation modifies the environment, if the man doesn’t interfere on the composition of wood supporting the other species.
